Types of Topsoil

  • Black Topsoil- This all-natural organic topsoil is light, fluffy and provides excellent nutrition to your plantings. Use at least 1-2” of this while installing lawns on your property. Since it is very light, it can settle if you use a thicker layer of it; which will cause your lawn to look uneven and rough. This particular type of topsoil is the perfect solution for vegetable and flower gardens, because of its nutritional content.

  • Brown Topsoil- This heavy topsoil is heavy and doesn’t settle too much into the ground; which makes it ideal for seeding or sodding. In most landscapes, brown topsoil is used to build up around building beams, foundations, installing lawns or changing the grade. You can use this topsoil at any depth; however it should be used when you are filling spaces that are over 5 inches in depth.

  • Blended Topsoil- This is generally a combination of brown and black topsoil. The mixture is beneficial because it has the nutritional content of the black soil combined with density of the brown soil. You can use this blend in your garden or lawn space. When you are using it to install a lawn, the recommendation is that it would be only about 4 to 5 inches deep in order to alleviate any additional settling.

  • Field Run Brown- This unscreened brown soil is sourced from farm fields and contains a certain amount of soybean clubs, sticks, rocks, as well as usable topsoil. None of these items are large enough to damage any of your gardening equipment.

In addition, we can also provide Straight Fill and Bed Builder for your landscaping project at very reasonable top soil cost.
